A thoroughly fantastic free day out to the awesome hydroelectric dam with the town centre of Pitlochry which is also thoroughly delightful within 5 to 10 minute's walk away.
Café at the dam.
Also plenty of cafés in Pitlochry town centre itself.
Definitely worth the distance from Cumbernauld Glasgow of an hour & 20 minute's drive & will be going back in the autumn.
5 star's for sure

We went for lunch this time, we've been to the Dam Visitor Centre before and it's excellent, (if big dams and their history are your thing). The café is excellent and is therefore very popular. You can't book ahead, so you may have to wait until a table comes free. Everything is home-made, cakes, scones, pizza etc, coffee is expertly made, service is reasonably quick, prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Nice Visitor Centre and very helpful and friendly staff. Café on the upper floor which is entrance level. Great views of the dam as well as excellent exhibits. Lift down to the ground floor for accessibility.

I found this place fascinating. Probably not for everyone, but I enjoyed the mix of education and history.

Good addition to the must visit site in Pitlochry. Sympathetically positioned it has everything you would need to know about the dam and its construction. Good restaurant parking and toilets.

December 2024: Free visitor centre on site at the dam. Very interactive with lots of things to watch, listen to and play with. Very informative in relation to hydropower and local salmon population. Great views of the dam from the visitor centre too. Short walk to and from the on-site car park, or there is a drop off point at the entrance if needed. Cafe and toilets inside the visitor centre along with a gift shop. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Worth a visit if in the area.
